You wouldn’t know it from Eli the Chimpanzee’s adorable disposition and profile that he was at the center of a rather contentious custody battle. As he was purchased for a whopping $65,000, this gentle chimp was as coveted an animal I’ve come across. Luckily the dust has settled in chimpanzee divorce court and Eli has found a good home in LA where I went to photograph him with his trainer, who also takes care of his mate, Tag the Kodiak Bear.
